Viale Italia eclecticism

A new friend in Stockholm, who is originally from Livorno, told me the other day his daughter is completely enamoured by these houses in Viale Italia. I must admit that I am too.
Just south of the Barriera Regina Margherita and opposite the Accademia Navale there are four blocks of Eclectic style villas built around 1930, a whole small town of fairytale castles and towered twin houses.
Let’s take a closer look at some of them.

Most of the houses have turrets of some kind. They are all elaborately decorated and different. Some have windows…

… and some are open to the elements.

Should you feel the urge to stay in one of these brick and mortar pastries, here is your chance. This green villa to the right is Hotel Gennarino.

The hotel turret up close.

The owners of these joint twin houses, identically decorated with eagles, mark their individuality with different colour schemes.

Here are a few detail shots especially for my friend the Lionhunter.

And now we’re back at the old railway gates again. Hope you enjoyed the walk!

Ah, lejon!
